10th Annual WORLDQUEST 2009
Thursday, November 19th, 6-9.30 pm at the Chesapeake Conference Center
WorldQuest is a fast-paced, exciting competition to test your international knowledge and promote understanding of our global neighbors. Participants compete in five categories: High school, College, College faculty, General and the Corporate Challenge, with prizes for the top three teams in each division. The first place high school team represents Hampton Roads at Academic WorldQuest competition in Washington, DC
WorldQuest is sponsored in part by Booz Allen Hamilton, the City of Chesapeake and Earl Industries, LLC.
The game is a contest between teams of eight (8). These teams can be representative of your company, organization, school, or have no affiliation at all. Rounds of questions projected onto a screen test knowledge of current affairs, world leaders, geography, recent history, flags, international organizations, countries, regions, the world economy, culture, religion, and more. A full competition is 60 questions, 4 rounds of 15 questions per round.
In past years competing teams have included corporations, college students and faculty, the general public, and high school students. WorldQuest 2009 winning high school team was Poqouson High School who goes on to compete in Academic WorldQuest in Washington, D.C. on April 24th, 2010 which is generously sponsored by Earl Industries LLC.
This year’s challenge was expanded to include college alumni associations, cities, retirement communities, law firms, the media and more that competed in their own categories. A prize was given to the top team in each category.
The World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads’ mission is to promote a greater understanding and awareness of and interest in matters of international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy. Through WorldQuest, the Council is engaging Hampton Roads in foreign affairs in a fun and interesting way.
