Loren Loving Marquez, Ph.D.
Dr. Loren Loving Marquez is dedicated to higher education and to equipping students with the writing and communication development necessary to be ethical and learned participants in their communities. Dr. Marquez is a native Virginian who earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Christopher Newport University and Master of Arts degree in English, Writing and Rhetoric from Virginia Commonwealth University. Propelled by her passion for teaching writing and her amazing students, she went on to earn her Ph.D. in English, Composition and Rhetoric from Texas Christian University.
Dr. Marquez currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Virginia Wesleyan University and is an Associate Professor of English. Dr. Marquez was a faculty member at Hampden-Sydney College in the College’s distinguished Rhetoric Program prior to moving into academic administration. She also served for over a decade at Salisbury University where she created and directed the First-Year Writing Program and English Department’s writing teacher-training program for its graduate students. She was honored in 2018 as the University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents Award for Excellence in Mentoring, the highest award for faculty members in the state’s twelve colleges and universities that comprise its Maryland System. Dr. Marquez has resided in the Virginia Beach area for the past five years with her husband and two children.
